The short answer is yes, but not always in the way people expect.
A piece of aluminum foil can interfere with RFID signals because metal reflects and absorbs part of the radio frequency energy. But in real applications, especially in warehouses, retail systems, access control, and industrial tracking projects, the result depends on many things — RFID frequency, tag type, reader power, distance, and how completely the tag is covered.
From our experience working with RFID applications, many customers first test RFID protection with household materials like aluminum foil. It is a quick experiment, but it is not the same as designing a reliable RFID shielding solution for commercial use.
For RFID distributors, system integrators, and bulk buyers, understanding this difference is important. A temporary blocking method and a professional RFID shielding product solve different problems.
RFID systems work through radio frequency communication between tags and readers.
When an RFID reader sends energy, the tag receives the signal and responds by sending information back. Aluminum foil creates a metal barrier that can disturb this communication.
Think about wrapping an RFID card inside aluminum foil. The reader may not detect it because the signal cannot properly reach the antenna inside the tag.
