So asking “can you read RFID with NFC” is like asking “can you drive on highways with a sports car?” Yes—because a sports car is a type of vehicle designed for roads. Similarly, an NFC reader is a type of RFID reader designed for close-range tasks.

What Actually Works (And What Doesn’t)

Here’s what you can realistically do when trying to read RFID with NFC:

What works:

• Reading other NFC devices (phone-to-phone sharing)
• Scanning NFC tags (those programmable stickers)
• Reading data from contactless smart cards (like credit cards or transit passes that use compatible 13.56 MHz technology)
